During late 2006, USOE Assessment and Accountability provided funding to eight consortiums of districts and schools for Assessment Result Mentors. The charter schools were one of these consortiums.
The purpose of this grant is to provide professional development, collaboration and mentoring to assist local educators in working with Assessment and Accountability data to improve professional practice and student achievement. The focus will include two major purposes of using data 1) to assist educators in looking back to evaluate student achievement and instructional effectiveness in the previous year(s) and 2) to assist educators in accessing and analyzing longitudinal data for their current students to facilitate instructional decisions using on-going data.
Assessment & Accountability Data Goals are to improve student achievement by using data to drive instruction:
- Provide immediate assessment results
- Provide longitudinal student data to every teacher at the beginning of the school year and throughout the entire year
- Develop a climate where students understand and own their own data
- Train educators in data analysis with formative and summative assessment results
Expected Outcomes:
- Consortium data will be loaded into a SQL database on a secure server.
- Meaningful data reports from state and formative assessments will be developed in collaboration with consortium schools and other schools at the COGNOS user group trainings.
- Consortium school personnel will have access to reports to ensure that data drives the administrative and instructional decisions to improve student achievement at the classroom level.
- Training will be provided to educators (administrators and teachers) in data analysis with formative and summative assessment results
Responsibilities of this position are as follows:
- Complete a needs assessment for each participating school to determine areas of focus
- Ensure that data is accessible at the student level to educators
- Coordinate and conduct professional development at both the administrative and classroom teacher level. These trainings include such topics as:
- Accessing data
- Effective analysis of student assessment results and reports
- Utah 's UPASS and federal AYP requirements
- Cognos software
- UTIPS – Utah 's formative assessment tool
- Data quality
- Maintain budget
- Develop meaningful data reports from state and formative assessments combined with local student information systems which can all be accessed via the Internet to help teachers direct and develop instruction
- Collaborate with other Assessment Results Mentors
- Complete a monthly activity calendar for the consortium & USOE
- Complete the annual evaluation report by April of each year
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by consortium
