"Creating assessment networks for schools"

Federal and State laws along with data collection requirements have driven the creation of a unique State Student Identifier (SSID) for each student in the state of Utah.

This SSID secure webpage is used by schools for batch or individual processing of SSID numbers:

https://ssid.schools.utah.gov/SSID

You will need to fill out an SSID user agreement form to access this webpage. Contact Lisa Lindgren at USOE 538-7500.

Be sure to download the most recent SSID User Manual.

There are 4 types of SSID actions.

The recommended sequence of processing these actions is:

  1. Retrieve
  2. New
  3. Update
  4. Verify

A more detailed look at RETRIEVE:

Retrieve first, then downlaod and look at the errors within an Excel file.

Print out the Excel file of the errors and verify the information 100% with a student's birth certifcate.  This helps assure the information entered into SSID is accurate to begin with. It is possible a secretary could have a significant typo in SIS, then when the student is not found because of the typo, it would erroneously assign a new SSID.  Even a new kindergarten student could have typos on the birthday, etc., so it is a good idea to do a double check even though it may cost a lot of time that people are running short on.

At this point, there should be a good reason for a student to not have an SSID such as: attended a private school, homeschool, transfer from out of state, or kindergartener. That reason should be identified before a student is assigned a new SSID.
