Experience is the only school from which no one every graduates.
-Anonymous
Good Afternoon,
I stand before you today as one of 86 elite students who have completed, the inaugural four-year curriculum at The Academy for Math, Engineering, & Science
My Fellow Students:
Today is not just about graduation and moving on with life; it is about so much more. We are the select few that made it through all 4 years. We are the courageous pioneers who chose as 8th graders to venture into the unknown and attend this new, promising, exciting, (but completely unproven) high school. That decision would prove to be an excellent one. Our journey was a bit rocky at first (no chairs or tables the first week of school in 9th grade); and now we’ve pushed those same chairs in for the last time, as we move on to bigger and better things.
Devoted Teachers:
I know that I speak for everyone when I say thank you for touching our lives and guiding us to discover who we are as learners. Every single one of you will be remembered in our successes, without you we wouldn’t be who we are today. This graduating class will leave behind so much more than the furniture we put together; we leave behind the memory of our resilient, inclusive, spirited class.
And of course, Our Dedicated Administration:
A special thanks goes out to Mr. Dyson for following all of us from the 9th grade to now. Another thanks goes to the office personnel, for you have to put up with us all on our bad days, and also Dr. Church. And to Dr. Church thank you for making all of us your friends and family. I never thought I would see someone stand in the hallway and greet all of his students in the morning and know all of us on a personal level. You sir, have touched us all and have made us who we are, thank you for the fantastic education that you allowed us to receive.
As we leave here today and go into the real world; remember who you are and always stand up for your beliefs; shine in the world, just like the brightest star in the sky. We are few in number compared to the average, ordinary high school; but we are abundant in talent, intellect, and strength. We are the cream of the crop, and we will do great things.
I’ll see you all at our ten year reunion, where I will look forward to hearing about the accomplishments, discoveries, and adventures of this elite graduating class of The Academy for Math, Engineering, & Science.
Thank you.
